El Diablo — which literally means “the devil” — is a restaurant located on the Spanish island of Lanzarote off the coast of northwestern Africa, and is on a volcano.

There is a giant grill that’s housed over one of the dormant volcano’s openings. The food is cooked using the 450 to 500 degrees Celsius heat from the actual volcano.

Eduardo Caceres and Jesus Soto, the architects who designed the restaurant, laid nine layers of basalt rock to insulate the restaurant over the volcano’s heat.

The last time there was any real activity from the volcano was back in 1824, so your meal should more likely than not be a tame experience.
Aside from the bizarre cooking methods, El Diablo also brags an amazing otherworldly panoramic view of Lanzarote’s Timanfaya National Park, a martian landscape of red sands and volcanic rock.

The vista is framed by the ”Montañas del Fuego,” or Fire Mountains, roughly 100 volcanoes that sprung up on the island in the 18th century.
