Microsoft just wrapped up its October event and announced a few incremental software and hardware updates as well as the rumored big gadget bombshell.

Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Studio, an all-in-one convertible desktop computer with a massive 28-inch PixelSense display, with the thinnest display ever built according to Microsoft and a 3:2 display ratio.

It also has an Intel Core processor options that include an i5 or i7 core processor, up to 32 gigs of RAM, and up to 4GB NVidia GeForce GPU. It also has a 2TB hybrid hard drive and an integrated 2.1 speakers and a haptic feedback controller puck device.

Meanwhile, the unique hinge on the back of the computer is designed to make it more flexible for creative pursuits, and Microsoft’s Panay Panos said onstage it’s designed to “fundamentally change” the way people create. The entire screen folds down for ease of use with a pen and with Microsoft’s new dial peripheral, the Surface Dial.

The Surface Dial is incredibly useful for video and audio editors. It allows a user to quickly scroll through huge projects or timelines. To make the Dial useful for artists, it can actually be put onto the Studio’s display to reveal a dial of colors, so that you can quickly select the proper hue without lifting a pen from the device. The dial also allows you to quickly zoom in and out to see the entire project or focus on one tiny detail.

  1. This is totally my dream desktop. I know that the new iMacs are awesome. But Surface Studio has something more to offer. It gives users more flexibility with its flexible dock. And Surface Dial plus Surface Pen are gonna change the way we use desktop a lot.
